Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2017

Vibrant citrus and green apple character, with riper notes of nectarine and clementine, toasted nuts and brioche

Pale golden in colour, with a fine mousse. The nose is full of vibrant citrus and green apple character, with riper notes of nectarine and clementine. On the palate, the wine is crisp, elegant and precise. Lemon sherbert, pink grapefruit and white stone fruit dominate. There is a zesty acidity and creamy texture, which makes way for notes of toasted nuts and brioche, from extended lees ageing, leading to a long and mineral-driven finish. The end of March saw budburst beginning two weeks earlier than usual for the 2017 season. Gusbourne were unaffected by frosts that affected most of Europe and the vintage progressed well, with seasonal temperatures and sunshine bringing us to early and fruitful flowering in mid-June. Good weather continued for the remainder of the season before Gusbourne began our harvest of high quality fruit in mid-September. Gusbourne has 60 hectares at Gusbourne Estate in Kent and 30 hectares in West Sussex that are planted with the 3 classic varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The distinct terroir and exceptionally mild microclimates of the surroundings add their own depth and complexity to the wines, and Gusbourne aims to allow the combination of site, soil and hard work in the vines to reflect in every bottle.
