Litmus Wines Red Pinot Noir 2018

Raspberry and clove, an earthy spiciness and a long finish

2018 was widely seen as being the best growing season for wine ever experienced in England. Hot and dry conditions from budburst to picking produced fruit of an exceptionally high quality. 2018 Litmus Red Pinot is made from 100% Pinot Noir that was cold soaked prior to fermentation on its skins and spent 19 months in one to five-year-old French oak barriques prior to bottling. Pale cherry red with a vibrant translucency the wine displays raspberry and clove characters on the nose. The palate is light, elegant and rich, being underpinned by an earthy spiciness and a long finish. This wine will gain further complexity with further cellaring. John Worontschak is the chief wine maker, who has developed the Litmus wines range. John has been making English wine since 1988. In 2010 John decided to create the first Litmus wine, Element 20; the concept was to move away from the traditional fruity and often one dimensional English wine styles. The Litmus range is a culmination of John’s experience and the wines are designed to highlight the very best of cool climate English style wines, promoting balance, complexity and length of flavour.
