Saffron Grange Vineyard Classic Cuvée 2017
Baked apples, ripe citrus and brioche, cream and nut
We loved the first vintage release of the Saffron Grange Classic Cuvée, the 2016, but the 2017 blows it out of the water! It has an amazing nose to it, that we kept coming back to – baked apples, ripe lemon & orange, brioche and buttered toast. On the palate, the fine mousse caresses the tongue and the apple, citrus and pastry notes are joined by a creaminess and hint of nuttiness. The wine is superbly well-balanced and has an exceptionally long finish; it was aged on lees for 24 months. Saffron Grange is a family-run vineyard on the outskirts of the historic market town of Saffron Walden in North-West Essex. Their land is on the same chalk seam as Champagne, and situated on a gentle south-facing slope. Together with the cool, dry climate, the conditions are perfect for growing the highest quality grapes – and the family are perfectionists about turning these into the highest quality sparkling wines.
