The red wine that has won England’s first ever International Wine Challenge Gold
Balfour Hush Heath are making some remarkable wines at the moment, and they have received a wonderful seal of approval for their limited edition “The Red Miller” 2018, becoming the first English red wine ever to win an IWC Gold Medal.
Made exclusively from beautifully ripe Pinot Meunier, usually the ‘quiet partner’ in classic sparkling blends, this distinctive wine is certainly a first for England. A short three-day fermentation on the skins, was followed by a brief time in French and American oak. With minimal filtration, the result is a delicate and aromatic red wine that is near impossible to replicate.
This is definitely a wine for food: something local, rustic, such as venison or pheasant. It would even match up to the notoriously hard to pair with dark chocolate, as well as smelly and blue cheeses.
Only 5,000 bottles were filled with this lovely liquid. We are able to offer a 10% discount to our newsletter subscribers, but in the interests of fairness we are limiting this offer to 3 bottles per person.

White Castle “1581” Fortified Wine
We are so excited to have got our hands on a few bottles of this very limited edition fortified red wine from the wonderful White Castle Vineyard in Wales. It’s not allowed to be called port, but if you want a reference point… well, port would be spot on! (And Late Bottled Vintage Port specifically).
This 2015 vintage has just been released, and it has an incredibly rich, round and smooth palate, with masses of bramble and blackberry on the nose and palate, with some black plum, chocolate and sweet spice notes adding to the complexity. It is hugely approachable right from the off, and absolutely ready to drink this Christmas!
Each of the 487 bottles is hand-sealed with red wax by the wine maker, Robb Merchant.
