The 2024 Vintage: a bit tough but we got there!
Riding the crest of the wave down from the particularly high production year in 2023, mother nature once again demonstrated she was in control. Despite the challenges of 2024 however, we managed to reach our ripeness targets on the vast majority of the fruit with the exception of the Chardonnay for our still ‘Two Beat Trot’. Despite considerable work throughout the year managing the canopy & crop it didn’t reach the required sugar and acid balance. However, the grapes were perfect for sparkling wine so were picked for our Cuvée instead. Despite all the weather challenges of 2024, we had clean fruit and healthy vine canopies. We harvested fruit that showcases English wines’ climatic idiosyncrasies. We are creating still wines that we can be proud to bottle and release shortly and sparkling wines on lees to be released for our enjoyment in a few years when the secondary yeast has worked its magic and the slow ripening flavours can be appreciated.
