This wine is made from grapes hand picked on Hudshill at Hazel End Vineyard, near Stansted Airport. Bottled by Rob Capp at Shawsgate Vineyard, beside Framlingham, it has spent extra time on its skins before being lightly pressed to bring out its character. The Bacchus was also blended with 10% Huxelrebe to add an extra dimension to the greengages and honey of Bacchus. It is reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc.
It was the hot summer of 1976 that induced Charles and Petronella Humphreys to plant vines on a particularly dry slope on their farm just a mile to the north of Bishops Stortford in Hertfordshire. It took nearly twenty years and two changes of site before the first commercial crop was harvested in 1996 but, since then, the wines from Hazel End have enjoyed a growing reputation
