For those of you still searching for Christmas gifts or a well-earned bottle or two for yourself to enjoy over the Christmas period, we are taking orders for Christmas delivery up until the end of Sunday 20 December. Since sending our last newsletter we have begun to offer gift cards online, handy if you can’t decide – or you know the recipient likes to choose their own wine! These are delivered virtually by email so can be purchased all the way up to Christmas Day!

Our Christmas cases are proving incredibly popular – each contains six wines guaranteed to deliver exceptional Christmas Day drinking. Orders from our wider pre-mixed case list are also flying out of the door, as are the wine and cheese gift option, with wax wrapped cheese that guarantees freshness and longevity;you can choose either a vintage Cheddar truckle or a Lancashire bombor both, paired with any wine from our shop (although we list our recommended pairings for your consideration).

If your purchase is a gift, we can include a message in the parcel – simply add the message into the Order Notes section at checkout.

Below we highlight two exceptional new wines that have joined our range: another world-class red from Balfour Hush Heath to rival their legendary Red Miller, and a stunning sparkling rosé from newcomers Artelium Wine Estate.

We’d like to close by thanking you for your support during 2020. In this most difficult of years, with our physical shop and bar suffering from the various restrictions placed upon trading, your custom has been invaluable to us – thank you.

Best wishes

Balfour Hush Heath “Suitcase” Pinot Noir 2018 (£34.99) Wow, what a nose! Chocolate, chestnuts, leather, dried tomato, gamey, mushroom, petrichor, and deep, deep black and red fruit. On the palate the fruit jumps bang to the foreground with bright, light ripe red fruits, wonderful black plum, truffle, dried thyme, mint, dill seed and fennel. The finish goes on and on. The story of this wine starts when winemaker Owen Elias chose to plant the infamous Pinot Noir clones Dijon 828 and 777 on the prime Fox Ridge site above Hush Heath Manor. Clones cherished and guarded by the French for their quality, in the 1960’s cuttings were allegedly wrapped in damp clothing and illegally smuggled from top burgundy vineyards into the US and have ever since been affectionately known as the ‘Suitcase’ clones. Challenging to grow due to their small tight bunches and lower yields but renowned for their colour, flavour and great potential for still Pinot Noir. For Hush Heath, this potential was realised in 2018, a vintage which will go down in the annals of English viticulture as an exceptional year for quality and quantity. Only 5,000 bottles made.
