Three Choirs is one of England’s oldest vineyards. In 1973, they planted their first vines when local wine retailer Alan McKechnie started harvesting the vines on his small fruit farm. This expanded to 75 acres by the 1980s. In 2014 Three Choirs became the proud owners of Wickham Vineyard in Hampshire, which has become a popular wedding location, with happy couples choosing to tie the knot nestled amongst the vines and gentle rolling hills of Wickham.
2024 vintage report
Our winery intake across all vineyards was down by 50% compared to 2024. However, 2024 was a large crop, so if we compare to an “average” crop we were probably between 30 and 40% down. Still a significant figure. Our own vineyards fared better than many. Our own crop was probably around 30% down. You only have to look at the weather over the last 14 months to understand why! Very wet, mild weather. We have fermented some early ripening Siegerrebe on the skins with the aim of reproducing the success of our Amber (Orange) wine. We have some very interesting Bacchus tanks that I am sure will blend to make a really complex style and there is a small trial of Sauvignon Blanc fermented in oak barrel. So in conclusion a very difficult growing season, costly and hard for the growers, but with good winemaking techniques there is no reason why the resulting wines can’t be good!
