This open and approachable wine is generous and soft on the palate. Expect delightful panettone-like aromas of sweet baked bread, dried apricots, nuts and candied citrus peels, courtesy of its extended 5-years of lees ageing. The Dosage included a sparkling wine aged in magnums which further enhances the wine’s complexity and depth.
Alison Nightingale began her working life in multi-national marketing before setting up Albourne Wine Estate with husband Nick in 2010. She selected the site of the vineyard not only for its stunning views of the South Downs, but for its slope, aspect, altitude and geology: tracing the beautiful south-facing slope of a low ridge created by underlying Cretaceous green sandstone. These features provide excellent drainage, low frost risk and maximum sun exposure. The vineyard is now planted with just over 44,000 vines covering approximately 30 acres, which include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Bacchus, Ortega and Dornfelder.
