Sugrue South Downs Cuvée Boz Blanc de Blancs 2015
Floral notes of white flowers & citrus, with precise and elegant fruit on the palate, weight & textural complexity
This very limited production wine is celebrated winemaker Dermot Sugrue’s tribute to his late brother Boz. In his words:
“Barry Ben Sugrue – was my brother and this wine is dedicated to him. Boz was spectacularly gifted, an ardent and accomplished man, bright as the crisp-white paper his razor-sharp pencil raised perfection upon. This Blanc de Blancs is my tribute, but truth is there is no fitting tribute to someone like Boz… Cuvée Boz is my attempt however.”
Glorious 2015 Chardonnay fruit from Hampshire forms 100% of the blend. It was crafted with long cellar-ageing in mind: it is everything you would expect from a mature English Blanc de Blancs – floral notes of white flowers and citrus, with precise and elegant fruit on the palate but with a weight and textural complexity that is only possible to achieve with extended time on lees in the winery.
This wine was vinified entirely in stainless barrels, without any oak, so a remarkable clarity and freshness shines through displaying toasty, flint-like minerality and a long, persistent finish.
