Lyme Bay Chardonnay 2022
Creamy apples and stone fruits, vanilla and toast
A depth of fruit and body that takes Lyme Bay Chardonnay to the next level in winemaking quality. On the nose, crisp green apple, citrus and light honeysuckle. On the palate, baked apple and vibrant citrus lead, a creamy finish with just a hint of spice. A crisp and complex framework makes this wine an excellent match with food, and it also has the structure to support extended ageing.
The Chardonnay grapes were hand-harvested between the 3rd and 14th October 2022 after a beautifully hot and dry summer. Low yields ensured great levels of ripeness and concentration. The wine was fermented in a mixture of stainless steel and oak, both old and new. It went through 100% MLF and was allowed aged for over a year, with regular battonage, before blending and bottling.
Lyme Bay entered into the world of English wine in 2009, planting 26,000 vines within a short distance of their winery in Devon. They also, as with this wine, source grapes from a select group of the best growers in the South of England.
