Hawkers Hill Bacchus Fumé 2023
Fresh, vibrant citrus notes coupled with light elderflower aromas and a hint of vanilla
The Norfolk Bacchus has fresh, vibrant citrus notes coupled with light elderflower aromas, while a hint of vanilla adds depth and complexity. It’s crisp, with bright acidity to balance the richness, offering vibrant citrus notes, a little green apple, delicious mineral undertones and some smokey, nutty characteristics. The wine was barrel fermented and aged in Hungarian oak for nine months, and was filtered prior to bottling.
Hawkers Hill is a boutique vineyard of four acres of vines, lying just outside Burnham Market on the coast of North Norfolk. Co-owner Anthea Franklin discovered in 2015 that vines had been planted on Hawkers Hill Farm in the Roman times and had a dream that the vines could return. Together with neighbour and farmer Mark Thompson, Franklin planted the current vines in 2016. Winemaking is done by Burn Valley, who are based just up the road in North Creake.
