New Hall is one of England’s oldest and largest vineyards, established by the Greenwood family in 1969. A formative stint in Alsace has inspired the winemaker, Piers Greenwood, to produce some remarkably flavoursome, multi-layered still wines, while the sparkling wines demonstrate the suitability of these Essex slopes for classic English fizz. There are seventy-eight hectares of vines at New Hall, planted to no fewer than nineteen varieties, each selected to optimise the potential of its particular site. The wine was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. A blend of real character and interest, with the grapefruit character of the Scheurebe complementing the pear and floral notes of the Pinot Gris and Ortega. Excellent balance and depth, showing Essex’s viticultural potential at its best!
