The nose is intense with aromas of grapefruit, passionfruit, lemon posset and fennel with a hint of white pepper. The palate is light and fresh with a lemon driven acidity and the bite of a Granny Smith apple. There is a nice salinity here that binds it all together and elevates the long finish. A perfect wine for seafood or just on a hot summers day.
The grapes for this wine were picked in October 2020 and gently pressed, whole bunch. Press fractions were carefully separated and left to naturally settle for 24 hours. Fermentation, with indigenous yeasts, took place in a combination of stainless-steel tanks and used oak barrels, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Following around 9 months of élevage, the final blend was bottled in August 2021, with around 80% of the blend being stainless-steel fermented and around 20% oak fermented.
All fruit for this wine was sourced from Langham’s single site in rural Dorset. The Crawthorne vineyard consists of 12 hectares planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and is located on a sheltered south facing slope at 80-100 metres above sea level. The soil consists of a shallow clay loam, containing flint, over deep Cretaceous chalk.
