Always one of England’s richest, deepest and most nuanced sparkling wines, we had great expectations of the wonderful 2018 vintage. And boy, has this delivered. Even richer and more complex than ever – but crucially retaining the freshness that balances it out. Deep gold, dark and rich, with a delicate mousse and tantalising, lingering aromas of honeyed green apples with hints of ripe lemon, white peach and toasted brazil nuts. Fruit leads on the palate, with red apples, poached pears and bright red berry fruit. It also displays subtle flavours of peach and developed toasty notes of freshly baked bread, roasted nuts and apple pie before a long, elegant and rounded finish.
Gusbourne has 60 hectares at Gusbourne Estate in Kent and 30 hectares in West Sussex that are planted with the 3 classic varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The distinct terroir and exceptionally mild microclimates of the surroundings add their own depth and complexity to the wines, and Gusbourne aims to allow the combination of site, soil and hard work in the vines to reflect in every bottle.
