Made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, of which 15 % are from the young recently planted vines, and the rest from the more mature vines of earlier plantings. The colour is reminiscent of a pale golden wheat. The nose is open, with a slight note of brioche and a touch of lime tree flowers, while the wine is round and generous in the mouth. The long finish is delicately spicy with a hint of nutmeg. Exton Park’s single-vineyard is planted on the rolling chalk slopes of Hampshire’s South Downs National Park. The result of three careful plantings over a number of years, at 55 acres, it is one of the largest vineyards in the county.
www.jancisrobinson.com tasting note: “Creamy and almost candied nose. Delicious. Like lemon cheesecake. Lively, bright acidity, with a bit of saltiness and elderflower. Elegant, fine, long. Lacework mousse. Tantalising. More lime and crystalline towards the end. Dancing on a very light skein of honey. 17/20” (Tamlyn Currin)
