Albourne Estate Bacchus 2019

Aromatic complexity - elderflower to green pepper, from mango to lime

The small and cool harvest of 2019 has created a Bacchus with a light mouthfeel and an aromatic profile with greater fruit than floral intensity. The wine is pale as usual, with an expressive nose ranging from green lemon thyme, lime, basil and tomato leaf to riper mango and yellow plums and hints of elderflower. It’s very refreshing and light on the palate expressing the cooler weather in 2019. Alison Nightingale began her working life in multi-national marketing before changing to a more creative, fulfilling and balanced path, setting up Albourne Estate. She selected the site of the vineyard not only for its stunning views of the South Downs, but for its slope, aspect, altitude and geology: tracing the beautiful south-facing slope of a low ridge created by underlying Cretaceous green sandstone. These features provide excellent drainage, low frost risk and maximum sun exposure. Albourne grow seven grape varieties planted across multiple clones and rootstock.
