Harrow & Hope Blanc de Noirs 2015
This wine epitomizes everything that was great about 2015. A fantastic year for Pinot, the cool, dry and long season really helped to bring out the ethereal flavours of this famously finicky variety. The H&H team have certainly been patient, giving it 40 months ageing on lees to really nurture these flavours and build texture and balance, giving the wine everything it needs for a very long life ahead. Although the 2015 is much more approachable at this stage than the 2013 it follows, it will only really start opening up around the middle of 2020. As Henry Lathwaite says, “Time is the greatest wine-making tool we have”. There’s a lot going on in this wine already, with a lot more to come as it matures further. Harrow & Hope’s single-vineyard sits on an ancient Thames gravel terrace. Being quite central and away from the coast the vineyard experiences high summer day temperatures with cooler nights that preserve precious acidity. This wine expresses everything that is great about Pinot Noir & Pinot Meuniere on their site, with pure fruit character, concentration, freshness and a lovely balanced texture.
www.jancisrobinson.com review: Gorgeous cream and walnut-bread toast on the nose – smells classy and rich. Tastes just like it smells. This is superb. Powers out the glass but at the same time it holds convincing depth that will continue to deliver over several years. Tense, peach-sweet, spiced fruit pierced by the racing lines of English acidity. I repeat: this is superb. 17.5/20 (Tamlyn Currin)
